Mosiah 22 It's interesting that wine is used as a strategy to defeat the Lamanites in The Book of Mormon and yet today people still drink it and get drunk and don't see a problem with it. I don't know why people like to lose that kind of control of themselves and allow some kind of substance to take over who they are and how they act. 23:21, "... the Lord seeth fit to chasten his people; yea, he trieth their patience and their faith. " (cross-reference; Proverbs 3:5) Am I passing my test? What do I need to do to improve my life and my attitude in order to have more patience and faith in the Lord? Gaining a stronger relationship with Christ talking to Him instead of others when I'm having a hard time, asking for strength through Christ would help me more then telling others or complaining to others about my trials I'm going through. Blessing: I know that God doesn't give me trials I can't get through and I know they aren't j...

Often we think of the word of the Lord being fullfilled in a possitive way, like revelations that a Prophet had and it came to past. But also things that are unpleasent happens to like people not repenting and coming unto Christ and they get punished for it but the Lord warned them. It's important that we are doing what we can to improve the world and the situation around us. Mosiah 21:4, " Yea, all this was done that the word of the Lord might be fullfilled." What commanmdents do I need to learn more about and obey with more exactness? Not just the 10 commanments those aren't the hard ones in these days. It's the pray, read scriptures every day kind. I feel that so many think of these things that have been ask of us as unimportant and disregard them. And yet, if we are continuously asked to do these things don't you think they are important? Blessing- I was able to help mom out yesterday by cleaning up the leaves.

Mosiah 18:8, " now as ye are desirous to come into the fold of God to be called his people, and are willing to bear one another's burdens, that they may be light; Yea, and are willing to mourn with those that mourn; yea, and comfort those that stand in need of comfort, and to stand as a witness of God at all times, in all things, and in all places that ye may be in, even until death, that ye may be redeemed of God, and be numbered with those of the first resurrection that ye may have eternal life- Now I say unto you, if this be the desire of your heart, what have you against being baptized in the name of the Lord, as a witness before him that ye have entered into a covenant with him, his commandments, that he may pour out his spirit more abundantly upon you? I love this scripture it shows the righteous hearts these people had. They had a desire to be part of Gods fold, were willing to bear each other's burdens and be there for others. I think one of the most important...

Abinadi was a great example, Prophet and leader. He not only testified of Christ but also asked the people to repent and become a better people which is what our leaders do today. When we heed the counsel of the leaders of the church we will be blessed and come to recognize the Lord in our lives more often. Sometimes missionaries don't have many "converts" to the Gospel on their mission or any at all but it's more important to realize that God will make things happen. Alma became a great example of following the Prophets counsel. D&C 18:15, " And if it so be that you should labor all your days in crying repentance unto this people, and bring, save it be one soul unto me, how great shall be your joy with him in the kingdom of my Father. " This is such an amazing missionary scriptures. We need to remember this promise and work towards these things instead of getting discouraged when we might not succeed or see what kind of effect we have on others ar...

Christ is "the founder of peace". How much love must Christ have for me or for each of us to Atone for our sins in order for us to have salvation and the opportunity to return to God again? Mosiah 16:9 " He is the light and the life of the world; yea a light that is endless, that can never be darkened; yea and also a life which is endless, that there can be no more death." If we are choosing to follow Christ or "the light and life of the world" our lives will be easier and we will come to know Him and what the Atonement really means. Redemption cometh through Christ. It is important to strengthen my relationship with Him every single day and not forget Him. I need to make Him a greater part of my life and include Him in ever aspect of my day. Often times I'm so stubborn that I don't want anyone to help me or see me in a lesser light but there are times we need to ask for help and we need to cry out for our Savior to pull us up. Blessing- I h...

I was reading in Mosiah 14:3-5 and tried to find a picture of this amazing scripture about Christ and His Atonement. In the meantime, I found an amazing cross reference. Mosiah 14:3-5 says, 3. " He is despised and rejected of men; a man sorrows, and acquainted with grief; and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. 4. Surely he has borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows; yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted." 5. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed." (definitions from the 1820 dictionry) http://webstersdictionary1828.com/ despised - Contemned; disdained; abhorred. rejected - Thrown away; cast off; refused; slighted. sorrow - The uneasiness or pain of mind which is produced by the loss of any good. or of frustrated hopes of good, or expected loss of happiness...

Mosiah 13 is Abinadi teaching the 10 commandments. I think it's interesting the things that people don't follow anymore. People today often think that the commandments and scriptures are out of date and that they don't have to follow them anymore. When in reality we do God give new revelations to us to add upon what we already know. Although with the Law of Moses Christ came and fulfilled all He needed to in order to get a greater law and promise. Christ brought with Him the gospel and a new way of living and an example of how to live this way. Because of the Savior of the world we are able to know how we can return to live with God again and become like Him. Blessing- I have the most amazing parents EVER! I don't understand sometimes why I was blessed with them, what I did.

Mosiah 11 Abinadi enters the story, the Lord tells him to go and tell the people of King Noah to repent. The people of King Noah are described in the scriptures as; people (that) labored exceedingly to support iniquity, (vs 6) and they exercised hatred (vs 17). vs 27 King Noah says, " Who is Abinadi, that I and my people should be judged of him, or who is the Lord, that shall bring upon my people such great affliction ?" As I read this I think about how proud and arrogant King Noah was to think that no one could make him or his people do or go through anything they didn't want to. The part that really surprised me was the part about the Lord. He is obviously not very learned and doesn't know who the Lord is and or what He has done for His people or will do for His people. I think there are a lot of people like that on earth that we shouldn't judge as believers in Christ but we should help them see the Lords hand in all things. Abinadi goes before the king a...

Mosiah 9:16-17 it says that they did arm themselves "with all manner of weapons wich we could invent, and I and my people did go forth against the Lamanites to battle." -we should use the tools the Lord has given us such as; Faith in Jesus Christ, The Holy Ghost, the Atonement, the Gospel knowledge, prayer, scriptures, a Prophet, local leaders... Then in vs 17, it says, "Yea, in the strength of the Lord, did we go forth to battle against the Lamanites;" Being more faithful and obedient to God's commandments made Nephi "favored of the Lord" which made his brothers mad. I think there are a lot of time in life today that it is hard to always be faithful and when we are others mock us and make fun of members for is. But We need to stand up and be strong like Nephi was to His faith, knowledge and understanding of the gospel. It is important to look at how we are living our lives and find things that we can repent of and improve on each day. As we do t...

What is a seer spoken of in the scriptures? (Mosiah 8:16-17) "a seer is a revelator and a prophet also; and a gift which is greater can no man have except he should possess the power of God, which no man can't yet a man may have great power given to him from God. But a seer can know of things which are past, and also of things that are to come, and by them shall al things be revealed or, rather, shall secret things be made manifest, and hidden things shall come to light, and things which are not known shall be made known by them, and also things shall be made known by them which otherwise could not be known." So our Prophet Thomas S. Monson is our seer today as well as his apostles. We are so blessed to have a prophet today that is able to receive revelation for the world and the church in order to help us to be a better people. King Benjamin is wicked and Abinadi comes and testifies of Christ and tells them to repent. My favorite scripture in this is Mosiah 7:33, " But if ye will turn to the Lord will full purpose of heart, and put your trust in him, and serve him will all diligence of mind, if ye do this, he will, according to his own will and pleasure, deliver you out of bondage." 1. "Turn to the Lord with full purpose of heart," 2. "Put your trust in him," 3. "Serve him with all diligence of mind," I love this because it is holding us accountable but it is also promising us blessing that we can have if we live this way. Blessing: my Father in Heaven reminds me of blessings I enjoy everyday so that I am more thankful and grow closer to Him in all things.

We are asked to recognize the things that our Father in Heaven has done and continues to do for us. Because of His perfect plan we can return to live with Him again if we live our lives following His counsel, be humble, prayerful and repentant . "(stand) steadfastly in the faith of that which is to come, which was spoken of my the mouth of the angel. " We need to listen to the words of our leaders that come straight from our Heavenly Father and abide by their counsel. It is hard to change and it does take work and dedication but it is worth it. We also need to develop a relationship with our Father in Heaven that we may know who He is and better understand what He expects of us on this earth. I'm thankful for my relationship with my Father in Heaven and I know that relationships take a lot of work so it's not perfect and there is always something to work on. How can I get to the point faster where I " have no more disposition to do evil, but to do good co...

Chapter 3 starts with a prophecy of Christ coming to earth and testifies of His mission to do many mighty miracles among the children of men. It makes me wonder how many other miracles were done by Christ that weren't recorded in our scriptures? Christ Atones for our sins and weaknesses. This alone makes me want to be a better person so that He doesn't have to suffer more for me than is absolutely necessary. Without the Atonement there would be no way to return to live with our Father in Heaven because of the Fall of Adam and Eve. The fall made it possible for us to have agency and have the choice to return to live with our Father in Heaven again. How can I live in order to show Christ that I am thankful for the way He lived, His example and for the atonement He performed for Me? What can I improve on? Mosiah 3:18 Christ has given each of us a ticket back to Heaven if we will but live the best we can he asks us to " humble and become as little children,...

" knoweth that ye are eternally indebted to your heavenly Father, to render to him all that you have been and are ;" (Mosiah 2:34) We need to give of ourselves to God. It's important to remember that everything that I am is because of God for I can do nothing without Him. " ...I would desire that ye should consider on the blessed and happy state of those that keep the commandments of God. For behold, they are blessed in all things, both temporal and spiritual; and if they hold out faithful to the end they are received into heaven, that thereby they may dwell with God in a state of never-ending happiness. " So first off it is asking us to keep the commandments of God which is more than "The 10 Commandments". It in tales living and changing our lives according to our Prophet and Apostles and their words to us today. It's important to know what our Prophet is asking of us to do today. What is he asking us? What did he talk about in the l...

King Benjamin talks to his people from the temple. The people pitch their tents that the doors will face the temple. I think it's interesting that they did that in the beginning and they didn't have to turn them. How often do we have our mind set on the temple and eternal things like we are supposed to? I think this could also mean not only showing up but being mentally ready to listen to our church leaders and taking their counsel. Mosiah 2:9 he asks the people to " hearken unto me, and open your ears that ye may hear , and your hearts that ye may understand , and your minds that the mysteries of God may be unfolded to your view. We need to do Heavenly Fathers work by serving those around us, doing what He would do and treat others as He would treat them if He were here. He was a great righteous king that sought to serve His people and help them to become a better people. He also tells them that (Mosiah 2:19) they "ought to thank your heavenly King!" I th...

Mosiah Chapter 1 They were asked to search the scriptures and keep the commandments. It's interesting how often in the scriptures they (we) are asked to do a lot of the same things, and yet members of the church get upset when we hear the same kinds of talks in General Conference. When that is the case then it is probably something that we need to improve on and not get upset at our leaders for. Essentially the guidance isn't coming from our leaders anyways it's coming from our Father in Heaven who loves us enough to correct us and allow us to become like Him. Keeping the commandments isn't impossible. It can be harder sometimes than others but we aren't asked to do anything we can't handle or do. We do have our own "ball or director" today which is the scriptures, spirit, living modern day Prophet and Apostles. I don't think we are truly thankful enough for the things we have been blessed with today. I know that I'm not. Blessing- I'...

Omni nine moons= 9 months. There is one moon cycle in a month 1:25 " for there is nothing which is good save it comes from the Lord ;" in Omni 1:25 he says "for there is nothing which is good save it comes from the Lord;" and I cross referenced "...all things denote there is a God." (Alma 30:44) Words of Mormon vs 7 it says is talking about why he is writing the scriptures and that he doesn't really know why except that's what he has been commanded to do. That is faith! He says, " And now, I do not know all things; but the Lord knoweth all things which are to come; wherefore he worketh in me to do according to his will ." For the Lord to use us through and work through us we must be worthy, be willing to listen and heed his guidance and council. Am I ready and worthy for this? vs 14 " in the strength of the Lord " We must be on His side, or we will NEVER win. Blessing- I have the most amazing big brother in the ...

Jacob 7: Is it harder for people to believe in spiritual things today because of all the technology we have been blessed with? It's important to gain our own testimony and witness of the truthfulness of the Gospel. We need to remember that it's also easy to get carried away with searching for answers online and in other resources that aren't true and can deceive God's children. Yesterday in institute we were talking about gaining a testimony and not falling away from the truth and knowing where to go for answers. I thought of this commercial: I think it's funny when she says, "you can't put anything on the internet that isn't true." It makes me wonder how many people actually believe that? But sadly a lot of people go to those sources for answers instead of praying to our knowing Father in Heaven. Why is it that we have to have a continuous witness of God, His power and His love for us in our lives? Why can't we have faith and rem...

We need to labor diligently in our work for the kingdom as well as improving the way we are living. As we do this we will notice things that we can improve on to become more like our Savior Jesus Christ. It is important to be " nourished by the good word of God all the day long ." (Jacob 6:7) We need to be reading, pondering, learning and changing ourselves every single day so that we are improving who we are and by doing this we will be able to see ourselves as God sees us. Jacob 6:12-13 " Oh be wise; what can I say more? Finally, I bid you farewell, until I shall meet you before the pleasing bar of God, which bar striketh the wicked with awful dread and fear ." There are a lot of interesting word choices in these verses; First " Oh be wise " to me it is kind of like saying use the common sense that our Father in Heaven has given each of us. In the dictionary, it defined wise as using "good judgment". I really like that because that is s...

Jacob 5:71 "For behold, thi is the last time that I shall nourish my vineyard; for the end is nigh at hand, and the season speedily cometh; and if ye labor with your might with me ye shall have joy in the fruit which I shall lay up unto myself against the time which will soon come." Christ is asking us to preach the gospel and to help those of His children that do not know the truth. It takes a lot of work from all those that believe. Missionary work is not just for those with a name tag on. I think it's amazing that Christ allows us to rejoyce and be happy over the things that happen in life even though nothing we do is realy our own doing. Every success, every happy moment, every achieved goal is because of our loving Savior was there helping us the whole way through. Blessing: I'm thankful for being able to go play basketball last night and make some friends.

Jacob 5 61- God calls servants to labor diligently and to prepare the way. Being a missionary was helping prepare the way for the Second Coming. That is a great work that not everyone is qualified to do. We need to continue to labor in His vineyard though so that more of the world will be prepared when that time comes. Christ invites us in vs 62 to, "labor with all our might this last time, for behold the end draweth nigh, and this is for my last time that I shall prune my vineyard." He's calling those who have been faithful to the end to help prepare the world and labor with Him to finish up the great work. 63:"...the last that they may be first, and the first that they may be last," God is not repsector of person. I use to think that is wasn't fare that those who received the Gospel later or those who fell away and did bad things could come back and just be forgiven when I hadn't committed any major sins. But since my mission I have changed my ...

Jacob 5:51, "And the Lord said: Yea, I will spare it a little longer, for it grieveth me that I should lose the trees of my vineyard." The Lord will work hard to make sure that everything in His kingdom is taken care of. He doesn't just give up on it or His children He has sent her to teach others about it. I love the last sentence when it says "it grieveth me" it shows that my Father in Heaven truly cares about each of us and that He wants the best for us. He is sad when people fall away from the Church, don't do what He has asked or listen to His guidance and counsel. What do we all need to do better to hear His word? How can we improve our life to have the spirit with us more abundantly in order to be more open and willing to listen and change. Change can sometimes be the hardest part of lives. God requires us all to change our lives and become more like His Son Jesus Christ. Blessing: To be able to go to church at work each Sunday so I don't mi...
