Ammon and Middoni in Alma 20:4 go to deliver Ammon brothers out of prison. Ammon has faith that he can deliver them he says, " in the strength of the Lord thou canst do all things ." (Phil 4:16) My favorite scripture!!! 2 Timothy 4:17 Alma 20:29 talking about Ammons brothers in prison says, " they were patient in all their sufferings ." What good examples. I need to be more patient in my trials and tribulations and learn to rely on and take strength from the Lord more often. I often try to do things on my own. -This is interesting to think about I think so often people complain to those around them about the trials they are going through and it's not the other person fault, usually, they can't help us either but if we strengthen our relationship with God then everything will be so much easier and we will be able to get through the trials and tribulations with much more strength and power and come out stronger. (Study the Atonement of Christ so that y...

Lamoni is sleeping in the power of God. That is probably a very relaxing and rejuvenating rest. I imagine he woke up with a lot of energy. Ammon takes every opportunity he can to bear his testimony; " For as sure as thou livestock, behold, I have seen my Redeemer; and he shall come forth, and be born of a women, and he shall redeem all mankind who believe on his name." I love the word believe. I think believing has a lot more to it then most people think. To believe in something means you must act in accordance to that belief. Abish is one of my favorite people in the Book of Mormon. She has such great faith for a long time among nonbeliever and stil stays strong. It's interesting to me thought that it says she never told anyone of her testimony nor the vision her father had. Alma 19:19 it's interesting beginning in this verse " the people start to murmur among themselves;" They just saw a miracle and that's all they can think to do? It's amazing ...

We need to approach others not of our faith like Ammon does King Lamoni with service before preaching. Service will get to the heart before preaching will. King Lamoni was in the power of the Lord for two days and two night. That's a long time. It makes me wonder what he was taught? He could have been taught all the gospel from Christ and his angels. It says later on in Alma 19:6, "he knew that the dark vail of unbelief was being cast away from his mind , and the light which did light up his mind, which was the light of the glory of God." This is powerful and amazing. I wish I had more faith and less doubt in my life. I believe and have a testimony but sometimes when it comes down to it my faith isn't enough and I get upset and frustrated. "Believe" Blessing: Everyone at my new job at the Family Resource Center loves me and makes me feel welcome but also part of the group and they are very helpful.

Alma 17:11, " And the Lord said unto them also: Go forth among the Lamanites, thy brethren, and establish my word; yea ye shall be patient in long-suffering and afflictions, that ye may show forth good examples unto them in me, and I will make an instrument of thee in my hands unto the salvation of my souls." I read this morning and it made me think about trials I go through and if God is doing the same thing with me. Making me a good example. Ammon is tending the king's sheep and after they are scattered Ammon takes a hard and annoying situation and turns it into a teaching situation. That is a great attribute. It's amazing to me too after he protects the kings sheep he goes and does more chores. He doesn't sit around and think about what just happened or go seeking praise from anyone. He simply goes about doing what needs to be done. I need to do that more often. I need to not always care what others think and seek for praise in things I do. Sometimes people...

Alma 15:18; it says that Alma " strengthened him (Amulek) in the Lord ." What do we need to today to be strengthened in the Lord? I think it takes a lot more faith then what I have most of the time. Alma 16:21, " the word of God being preached in its purity in all the land, and the Lord pouring out his blessings upon the people." How much different would the world be today if the word of God could be taught in purity? If we were righteous enough to truly understand and decern the things that God wants to tell us. What would that take? Am I doing and working on the things that our Prophet and Apostles are asking me to do? Do I read their words often? " they had waxed stronger in the knowledge of the truth ; for they were men of a sound understanding and they had searched the scriptures diligently , that they might know the word of God." (Alma 17:2) I love this scripture. Its' a good reminder of what we should be doing. 1. we should be getting...

Alma had such great faith that even when threatened by the king to be put to death after he was thrown into prison he still had faith in God and did what was necessary for Gods plan. I love that he taught people in prison. I would probably be so upset I wouldn't even think about that until after or later on. How can we better understand and learn that God sometimes answers our prayers by not answering our prayers? Like the people were not saved from the fire in this chapter (Alma 14) but they were received by the Lord. -It seems that the righteous in the scriptures are tested and tride a lot even though they show great faith in the Lord, Why? Why is it so necessary to go through trials? Are some trials we go through for others or are they all for ourselves? It interesting thinking about this because I served my mission in Georgia, the bible belt. There are a lot of people with such strong faith and yet when the going gets tough they quit. -What can I do to strengthen my relat...

I love the wording of this, "... being left to choose good or evil; therefore they having chosen good, and exercising exceedingly great faith," How can we make sure we always choose good? Also how can we exercise our faith more in the Lord God? " it was on account of their exceeding faith and repentance, and their righteousness before God, they choosing to repent and work righteousness rather than to perish;" (Alma 13:10) I love that it goes back to agency that God has given us all and it shows the benefits as well of being righteous and choosing good. Alma 13:28-29; " But that ye would h umble yourselves before the Lord , and call on his holy name , and watch and pray continually , that ye may not be tempted above that which ye can bear , and thus be led by the Holy Spirit, becoming humble, meek, submissive, patient, full of love, and all long- suffering ;" Having faith on the Lord ; having a hope that ye shall receive eternal life ; having the l...

It's interesting that so many people look at The Fall of Adam and Eve as a bad thing. I use to think it was also but for a lot of years I have gained a better understanding as I've read and learned about it. Alma 12:31 is a great scripture, it says, "Wherefore, he gave commandments unto men, they having first transgressed the first commandments as to things which were temporal, and becoming as Gods knowing good from evil , placing themselves in a state to act , or being placed in a state to act according to their wills and pleasures , whether to do evil or to do good -" It's interesting to me that it is pointed out in this scripture that they transgressed the first commandments given to them in this life. It makes me wonder what commandments I transgress and or don't put a high priority on in my life? This scripture is followed by an amazing powerful one with a promise from God; " If ye will repent , and harden not your hearts, then will I have merc...

Alma 12:8; Zeezrom was curious and was asking Alma questions to gain a better understanding. It is important to ask questions and really try to better understand what the concept is. In order to learn and better understand we need to be curious and not loose the love for learning. We are asked to repent of our sins and to understand opposition and that there is a right and a wrong way of living life. God "has all power to save every man that believeth on his name and bringeth forth fruit meet for repentance." (Alma 12:15) What can I do more then I am doing to gain greater faith and hope in my life? (pray about) Blessing: I was able to attend mom and dad's stake conference where Elder Holland presided and listen to him speak.

Alma 11, Zeezrom asks Amulek, "Will ye answer the question which I shall put unto you?" Amulek: " Yea, if it be according to the Spirt of the Lord, which is in me; for I shall say nothing which is contrary to the Spirit of the Lord ". (Right there if I was ZeeZrom I wouldn't have even asked him the question knowing that but he continues. Zeezrom: he doesn't really ask him a question either he says, " Behold, here is six onties of silver, and all these will I give thee if thou wilt deny the existence of a Supreme Being ." I think this conversation is so funny, and also very pointless because Zeezrom didn't even listen to Amulek in the first place and realize that He wouldn't deny God. I find it interesting that despite all the warnings God has given His people, there are still so many that choose to live their lives in sin. They choose every day to do drugs, or lie and steal and go aginst all that is right. This is why it is so import...

It's interesting that people have been putting others on a pedestal for years. Making other people below or allowing other people to be above them in religious practices without true revelation from God. In the scriptures, it says that " by their fruit ye shall know them. " (Matthew 7:16-20) Why are people so quick and willing to listen to anyone who sounds like they might have authority or they say they have it? I think so many especially today . D&C 123:12, " For there are many yet on the earth among all sects, parties, and denominations, who are blinded by the subtle craftiness of men, whereby they lie in wait to deceived, and who are only kept from the truth because they know not where to find it." I believe this happens more and more today as people try to go out and do their own thing and not listen to the words of the Lords servents. Blessing- I love to work!!!

Alma 9, why are we so quick to forget the many blessings and miracles we have and have seen in our lives? It seems so easy to get upset about what isn't happening right now when we want it to instead of noticing the things that are going great. The people were able to have " all things made known unto them, according to their desires, and their faith, and prayers, of that which have been, and which is, and which is to come; " Where are my desires? Are they righteous desires? What do I do in order to be obedient and to live worthy of them? Another prophecy of the coming of Christ is given, " the Son of God shall come in his glory; and his glory shall be the glory of the Only Begotten of the Father full of grace , equity , and truth , full of patience , mercy , and long-suffering , quick to hear the cries of his people and to answer their prayers ." (Alma 9:26) This is a good list of Christlike attributes that I need to work on in my life to become more...

Alma 7:21, " And he doth not dwell in unholy temples; neither can filthiness or anything which is unclean be received into the kingdom of God;" When I read this it made me think about how often our bodies are referred to as temples and that we are supposed to keep them unspotted from the world. And we are supposed to stay spiritually, mentally, and physically clean. I think often we forget this and allow bad or negative thoughts come into our minds. But if we put it in this context we are allowing negative thoughts (thoughts from Satan) come into our own personal temples. We need to make sure we are exposing ourselves to things that are pleasing to our Father in Heaven. Alma 7:23-24, " And now I would that ye should be humble , and be submissive , and gentle ; easy to be entreated ; full of patience and long-suffering ; being temperate in all things ; being diligent in keeping the commandments of God at all times ; asking for whatsoever things ye stand in need, both ...

Alma 7:11-13, " And he shall go forth, suffering pains and afflictions and temptations of every kind; and this that the word might be fulfilled which saith he will take upon him the pains and the sicknesses of his people. "And he will take upon him death, that he may loose the bands of death which bind his people; and he will take upon him their infirmities , that his bowels may be filled with mercy, according to the flesh, that he may know according to the flesh how to succor his people according to their infirmities. "Now the Spirit knoweth all things; nevertheless the Son of God suffereth according to the flesh that he might take upon him the sins of his people, that he might blot out their transgressions according to the power of his deliverance ; and now behold, this is the testimony which is in me." Alma 5:59-60, " For what shepherd is there among you having many sheep doth not watch over them, that the wolves enter not and devour his flock? And behold, if a wolf enter his flock doth he drive him out? Yea, and at the last, if he can, he will destroy him. And now I say unto you that the good shephard doth call after you; and if you will hearken unto his voice he will bring you into his fold, and ye are his sheep; and he commandeth you that ye suffer no revenous wolf to enter among you, that ye may not be destroyed." The good shepherd- Christ He wants us to come unto Him and partake of his goodness and blessings. We can do this by entering into His fold and becoming a follower of Christ. To become a follower of Christ one must keep His commandments, by harkening unto his voice. So with that we need to listen and obey, it's imiportant to gain a testimony of new commanments and guidance from our modern day Prophets as well as from the scriputres. We must be aware o...

This is one of my favorite scriptures because it's kind of like a "spiritual to-do list" for becoming more spiritually in tune. It's a good way to check up on how you are doing and notice things that you can improve on. Alma 5:14-15, 19, 27 " And now behold, I ask of you, my bothern of the church, 1. Have ye spiritually been born of God? (vs 14) 2. Have ye received His image in your countenances? 3. Have ye experienced a mighty change in your hearts? 4. Do you exercise faith in the redemption of him who created you? (vs 15) 5. Do you look forward with an eye of faith, in immortality, and this corruption raised in incorruption, to stand before God to be judged according to the deeds which have been done in the mortal body?" 6. "Can ye look upon God at that day with a pure heart and clean hands? (vs 9) 7. "Can you look up, having the image of God engraved upon your countenances?" 8. "Have ye walked, keeping yourself blameless b...

"Looking forward to that day, thus retaining a remission of their sins; being filled with great joy because of the resurrection of the dead, according to the will and power and deliverance of Jesus Christ from the bands of death." (Alma 4:14) We need to be more grateful for the blessing of the Atonement in our lives and truly learn more about it and gain a better understanding of what it truly is and should mean to each of us. They joy and relief we would feel even greater if we understood the Atonement more today than we did yesterday. I think we would truly want to change for the better and lose a desire to sin. I had the thought yesterday that I should expose myself to more uplifting music and things and be more aware of the people and things around me. After the Question and Answer session with Elder Jeffery R. Holland yesterday it gave me a boost of the desire I have to be a better person one that would be worthy to be used as an instrument in the hands of Go...

It's interesting that whenever Satan gets hold of the hearts of God's people there is always war and contention. You would think that us as people would realize this and try to prevent Satan from getting to us so much. He makes us have all these negative feelings which is the exact opposite of what Christ is, which we should be striving to be like. But then after they are sinful and have been following Satan they always end up repenting and coming unto Christ. It shows us how much fun it is to sin and repent if they are always repenting and turning their hearts to our Savior. Blessing: I'm happier lately and am learning to find my own happiness every day.

Alma 1:4-7; this is a great example and great evidence of why we don't pay the leader of the church. They like throughout time in the scriptures become prideful and " establish a church after a manner of his preaching ." (vs 6). (Ama 1:17-18)Why are we obedient? Is it because we are afraid of the punishment ? afraid of the one doing the punishing? Or are we obedient because we know the importance of being obedient and have seen blessing come from it? How can we be more " steadfast and immovable in keeping the commandments of God," as well as bear "with patience the persecution which we heaping upon them."? That is a hard task. But it's not impossible. I think often we forget we have a Savior and the gift of the Holy Ghost that can help us out as well and bring others to us to help us stay on the path. Patience is a hard one. I am so impatient when in comes to things in life. Blessing: I was able to go home and get a lot of yard work do...

The sons of Mosiah desired that everyone should have salvation so they went and taught the Laminites by the commandments of God. The Lord told Mosiah, " Let them go up, for many shall believe on their words , and they shall have eternal life; and I will deliver thy sons out of the hands of the Laminites." That would be an amazing promise as a missionary from the Lord, that you will have many converts before you go out into the mission field. King Mosiah has the urim and thummim (28:13) that he translated with just like the Prophet Joseph Smith. (JS-H 1:35) I really like the wording of Mosiah 29:19, " And were it not for the interposition of their all-wise Creator , and this because of their sincere repentance , they must unavoidably remain in bondage until now." I love the position they put God in. Telling us that he is all- wise and reminding us of the true power that He has. It makes me want to be more aware of the things He does for me, for people and aro...

The priests " began to fast and pray to the Lord their God that he would open the mouth of Alma, that he might speak,... the eyes of the people might be opened to see and know of the goodness and glory of God ." (Mosiah 27:22) Why is it that we often look at the hard times and dwell on those longer then the amazing many many blessings we receive every day from our Heavenly Father? Asking to recognize blessings and to " see and know" in order to have a testimony of the gospel of our Savior Jesus Christ is so important to do and to constantly be strengthening our testimony. Testimonies are like muscles if we aren't "exercising" our faith and using the tools (scriptures, prayer, words of the modern day prophets...) we have been given today to be stronger tomorrow we will lose the strength we have. How can we better change from a fallen state, " to a state of righteousness, being redeemed of God, becoming his sons and daughters;...

Alma and his people labored for the church, " walking (with God), in all diligence, teaching the word of God in all things, suffering all manner of afflictions, being persecuted by all those who did not belong to the church of God. And they did admonish their brethren; and they were also admonished, every one by the word of God, according to his sins, or to the sins which he had committed, being commanded of God to pray without ceasing, and to give thanks in al things ." (Alma 26:38-39) That is an amazing scripture and has a lot of application in it that we should be following and doing in our own life as well. " for he has prayed with much faith ," (Mosiah 27:14) How can we pray with more faith? What would be required of me to change the way I pray to have more faith? I should probably ask for the Lords oppion and His guidance and counsel more then giving it to Him. I often find myself telling Him what I want to come out of my life instead of asking Him wha...

What are righteous desires we can and should have today? The people in Alma's day had a desire to be called the people of God and they had faith in God and repented of their sins. (Mosiah 25:22-24). Unrighteous people of the scriptures are often described as having hard hearts. What would make someone have a hard heart and how can we make sure we don't have one? How can we make sure we are always teachable and willing to learn from our leaders and the Spirit? I think it's important to be humble and to always be open to learning new things from everyone. Always be learning and reading new things is a good way to be teachable because you know by doing this that there is more truth out there than one person could ever know. As we teach each other and all learn different things that's what makes the world keep going and bringing us closer to our Father in Heaven. Mosiah 26:13, " he went and inquired of the Lord what he should do concerning this matter ," As ...

Mosiah 24:13, The Lord said, " Lift up your head and be of good comfort, ...I will covenant with my people and deliver them out of bondage. " 14. And I will also ease their burdens which are put upon your shoulders, that even you cannot feel them upon your backs,... and this will I do that ye may stand as witnesses for me hereafter, and that ye may know of a surety that I, the Lord God, do visit my people in their afflictions ." 15. . ..the burdens... were made light; yea, the Lord did strengthen them that they could bear up their burdens with ease, and they did submit cheerfully and with patience to the will of the Lord ." I think this is interesting because this is not an easy thing to do. It truly takes dedication and a lot of work to trust in the Lord and obey his commandments. I also need to "submit cheerfully and with patience to the will of the Lord." That is one thing that is hard for me to do. I always think I know better and that everything s...
