"the guilty taketh the truth to be heart, for it cutteth them to the very center." (1 Nephi 15:2)
The truth is hard to take regardless of who it is coming from especially if it is asking us to change our lives in a way we already know we should.
"if ye were righteous and were willing to hearken to the truth, and give heed unto it, that ye might walk uprightly before God," (vs 3)
1. We must be righteous, 2. willing to hearken to the truth and 3. be ready to give heed to it.
-Righteousness means more than going to church it is living the Gospel it is changing ourselves and allowing God to change us as He will. Being willing to harken to the truth is more than just listen to others teach the truth and taking it as a suggestion it is living it and changing our own lives whatever might need attention in order to be more like our Savior Jesus Christ. "be ready to give heed" Being ready means we have a testimony and we are ready and waiting for our Father in Heaven to guide us and give us counsel on what we need to do or change around us.
Nephi and his family had the Liahona to guide them and direct them in the ways of the Lord, President Monson talks about our present day Liahona;
"The same Lord who provided a Liahona for Lehi provides for you and for me today a rare and valuable gift to give direction to our lives, to mark the hazards to our safety, and to chart the way, even safe passage-not to a promised land, but to our heavenly home. The gift to which I refer is known as a patriarchal blessing. Every worthy member of the Church is entitled to receive such a precious and priceless personal treasure." (Live the Good Life, p. 36 - 37.)
By frequently reading our Patriarchal blessing we can receive the personal guidance.
Blessing: I was able to go out and have fun with my amazing family yesterday and have so much fun.

Neal A. Maxwell
"There was murmuring, too, because Nephi broke his steel bow and also because he couldn't possibly build a ship (see 1 Nephi 16:18-20; 17:17). Those same murmurers, insensitive to their inconsistency, quickly surfeited themselves on the meat brought back by Nephi's new bow. They also sailed successfully over vast oceans to a new hemisphere in the ship that Nephi couldn't build. Strange, isn't it, how those with the longest lists of new demands also have the shortest memories of past blessings?" (If Thou Endure It Well, p. 125.)
We must have faith in the Lord that He will provide every needful thing.Blessing: I was able to go out and have fun with my amazing family yesterday and have so much fun.
