The brother of Jared told the people to "cry unto the Lord" (Ether 1:37). 
Crying is more than just saying your prayers because it's a habit and it's what we do every day. Crying is truly opening up our mind and soul to our Father in Heaven in a way that we don't do with anyone else. In order to gain or strengthen our relationship with Him we need to truly cry and open our hearts and minds to Him.
Then later in vs 38 he says to the people, "let us be faithful". So we need to pray unto the Lord and then be faithful in all He asks us to do and I think especially in our relationship with Him.

Faithful- Firm in adherence to the truth and to the duties of religion, True; exact; in conformity to the letter and spirit; as a faithful execution of a will.

Father in Heaven preserved America for the coming forth of the Restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He couldn't have brought forth the gospel in any other way.

I love that the Brother of Jared had a problem and instead of Heavenly Father solving it and/or telling him what to do God asked for ideas and allowed him to think for himself. I think God does this a lot in our live for each of us and it helps us appreciate the blessings we have and the help we receive from God when making decisions.
